Take a smallish used box (tea, chocolates etc, it doesn't matter as long as two distinct halves can be made from it). This one just happens to have been emptied of choccy truffles - yum. Join the two halves and label a 'pick' side and a 'done' side. Now make out a small piece of card with the name of every scale and arpeggio/broken chord required for practice. This set can be added to as the pupil goes through the grades, so avoiding the situation where all the Grade 3 scales are forgotten while the pupil gets to grips with Grade 4 etc!
Coming up, some thoughts on the Grade 5 selected piano pieces - I may break with tradition and start with the C list!
